Key points for choosing olive oil glass bottles

Olive oil is rich in antioxidant substances and has high nutritional value. However, it is highly sensitive to light. Intense light can trigger photochemical reactions, destroying the internal nutrients of olive oil, accelerating the oxidation and rancidity of the oil, and shortening the storage period of the oil. Therefore, when choosing a glass bottle for olive oil, the light-blocking ability should be given top priority. It is advisable to give priority to dark-colored glass bottles such as dark coffee and dark green, and try to avoid transparent glass bottles. Although transparent glass bottles can directly show the color of the oil, they cannot block ultraviolet rays. Even if placed indoors, long-term exposure to light will damage the quality of the olive oil.

Apart from the color of the bottle body, the safety of the glass bottle material cannot be ignored. It must be made of glass that meets food contact standards, with stable material and no chemical reaction with olive oil. Do not use ordinary metal containers to store olive oil. If the oil is in prolonged contact with metal, a chemical reaction will occur, which will damage the quality of the oil.

The sealing effect of the bottle mouth and the bottle cap is equally crucial. No matter how good the bottle is, if it is not sealed tightly and air continues to enter the bottle, the olive oil will still oxidize and deteriorate. When purchasing, check the fit of the bottle cap to ensure that it can isolate air and reduce the entry of oxygen after being tightened.

After choosing a glass bottle, subsequent storage should not be taken lightly either. Olive oil is suitable for storage at a temperature of 5 to 15 degrees Celsius. It should be kept in a cool, dark and dry place, away from high-temperature areas such as stoves. After each use of olive oil, make sure to tighten the bottle cap in time. When transporting and handling, take good protective measures to avoid collision and damage, and prevent moisture and contamination. Only by choosing the right glass bottle and storing it correctly can olive oil fully retain its nutrients and achieve a shelf life of approximately 24 months.
